Layers for indoor applications

In order to realize photocatalytic effects, the TiO2 layers need to be activated by UV light. For outdoor applications, the UV-A portion of sunlight is sufficient. A goal of current research is to use visible light to activate the photocatalytic layers. This involves:

  • expansion of the range of use of photocatalytic layers (artificial light)
  • the use of broader wavelength ranges for activation of the layers

The following approaches are being pursued to reach these goals:

  • doping of the layers during the manufacturing process
  • development of new material combinations
